Argo Products, Inc.
We are constantly testing and revising our products to comply with the Consumer Products Safety Commission regulations for lead content in children’s jewelry. California’s laws are based the federal rules, so we are also in compliance with
California 's regulations. We rely on independent, certified testing facilities to assure accurate results.
THE CURRENT REGULATIONS: No single component can have a concentration of more than 600 parts per million of lead (0.06%). A neck chain has several components: the clasp, tabs, links and the chain itself are all components, and must be tested separately. A second “acid digestion” test may be used to approve jewelry if it leaches less than 175 micrograms of lead in a fixed period of time.
A Congressional conference committee is meeting to make final changes to a Consumer Products Safety Commission reform act that includes standards for children’s jewelry ( H.R.4040 ). The lead standard is expected to be tougher, and will be effective 1-2 years after enactment.
WE ALREADY MEET THESE PROPOSED STANDARDS!
Some jewelry components are only available from foreign suppliers. We send random samples from every shipment of imported parts to independent, certified laboratories for lead testing.
We use lead-free production methods, and are holding our competitive prices.
